"SBC's Whitacre says DSL prices will fall
SBC COMMUNICATIONS INC. Chief Executive Officer Edward Whitacre late Wednesday said his company continues to lose money on digital subscriber line (DSL) service used to offer high-speed Internet access. The nation's second-largest local telephone company recently raised the price for DSL service 25 percent to almost $50 a month to stem the losses, Whitacre said. SBC has about 1 million customers for the service. "We've raised prices for DSL because we were losing a lot of money and we still are," he said during a luncheon at the National Press Club. "But we have to cover our costs and we've been slowed down by regulators....That price will come back down in the future." (Reuters 06:47 PM ET 05/16/2001)"

Now that sounds like a confession to me. An admission they sold below cost to run the CLECs under.

I'd also like to know how they were slowed down by regulators.
