I have no reason to think the people who work for Ashcroft would.

Yesterday, when you said that it can't be rude to act on your beliefs, I drafted a response that said "that's the absolute dumbest thing you've ever said." But, as you know, I don't post like that. I rarely even think like that although you are unique in your ability to provoke that kind of reaction in me. So I changed my post to something more collegial. I'm really glad I did, because otherwise I would be hard pressed to react to today's statement, which somehow managed to exceed yesterday's.

Senior executives in the bureaucracy make assignments based in large part on their "comfort level" with an individual. Anyone who is personally ambitious and anyone who cares about getting the opportunity to lobby for adequate resources for the program he manages knows that he won't be able to inspire that "comfort level" in the boss unless he has "face time" with the boss. Of course, it's hard to get "face time" with the boss unless the boss has a sufficient "comfort level" to include you in meetings in the first place. Catch 22.

Among the thousands of employees at Justice, you really think that none has the capacity to perceive these sessions as an opportunity to get that precious "face time"?
