William,

I know of few companies who announce ahead of time that earning are going to be great . That is too apt to lead to exaggerated expectations, an inflated stock price, and corresponding disappointment. It seems that when a company announces that it is confortable with earnings, or that business is good , that is about as positive as they can psychologically afford to be.

That leaves us benchwarmers to figure out what earnings really will be, as opposed to what analysts tell us. (And I feel certain that some analysts also hedge their predictions one way or the other to protect their customers.)

And even good earnings and a stock split aren't necessarily reflected in a stock's market price. Look at WDC.

I think that INTC's price reductions will ultimately help DELL, but I do not know when. I would imagine that DELL contracts several months ahead to ensure an adequate and continuous supply, so that even if INTC cuts prices 50% today, the good news wouldn't reach DELL's bottom line unitl several months down the line.

JMHO, three
PS. glad you haven't totally forsaken us for the summer!
