I am one of the few around here who have tried, periodically, to make the distinction among various shades of leftism, from the center outward. However, liberals are roughly equivalent to European social democrats, who have accepted what one might call welfare- state capitalism. Most of them long ago realized that capitalism was the better growth model. But they do not understand that the political allocation of resources, though sometimes justified, increases market inefficiency and should be used sparingly. Not only does it substitute fiat for free exchange, but it creates opportunities for corruption through patronage and political/bureaucratic aggrandizement.
