Sorry Phil, your information from the Fry's sales persons are poor. Try speaking with a Fry's Manager. Also, if you believe the information you are giving us, the next time you go to Fry's, look at the Zip boxes. Fry's returned items have a special sticker indicating that it was inspected. I don't think you will see very many of these inspection stickers on the Iomega boxes.
Yes, a 100 MB drive with a 29ms access time is shoddy. Unfortuneately, the majority of mass market consumers are piss poor purchasers of computer equipment. The hottest selling zip is the parallel version! Yes, the ZIP is the "standard," and there's nothing you or I can do about it. Actually, I did something about it, I bought IOMG stock.
If Iomega was trying to market the Zip to high-end users, I would have shorted the stock in an instant. Stand by a Iomega display one of these days. When a customer comes by to purchase a parallel port Zip, as him/her if he knows what SCSI, FAST SCSI, and Fast-WIDE SCSI is. If the majority of purchasers do not know, then you will understand why a shoddy product has become the "standard."
Please, I don't want to hear from any Iomegans how great the Zip is. I understand the market and I'm highly invested in Iomega stock. I may not like it, but I'm in this market as an Investor, not a computer consultant. |
