It is perplexing. Perhaps the simplest answer is the best: transfer of metal ions from below - the basis behind geochem surveys.

Can't see Bruce's mushroom theory. Remember the highest values are in a narrow band approx. 100 meters wide running on the western edge of the anomalies. Check graphs in their last two NR's.

Anything is possible. All we can do is accept the most probable.
