Do you fault him because he didn't spend more time on certain specifics? His only objective was to bear witness of Jesus. Why go into a full history to doctors, historians, and the rulers regarding things they already knew?
Bravo, Chris! That is a straightforward answer. With such answers one can reconcile the whole bible!
Just so you know I have the ability to do this as well, I will give you an example:
Gen.8:13 "In the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth."
Gen.8:14 "And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried."
This apparent contradiction is easily explained. Although the earth appeared dry on the first day of the first month, it yet was dangerous in that it held sinkholes and such as one would expect after six miles of water covering the surface up to the highest mountains. God knew that it would be extremely risky to let the animals out on their own as their limited numbers placed the survival of many many species at risk.
"Act in haste; repent at leisure", as it is often said for our instruction. God allowed the ground water to settle below the surface so that the crust should provide a reliable footing for Noah and his family. Thus is the mercy of God shewn to our hearts. Thus did He drown the human race in His unlimited mercy, so that his perfect Justice might be achieved through the exquisite suffering that comes from struggling against the trident of Poseidon.
The righteous NOah then got drunk and naked and the whole world was glorified once again. God had desired Noah to understand the lesson of "drying out", but Noah immediately fell off the wagon and began to plant his grapes. Thus can we all ignore the gentle whispers of God as we rush headlong into the darkness, away from the brightness of His light, when all the while He has provided a dry path through our difficulties, just as He did when he parted the Red Sea so that His people could escape from the heart of Pharoah which God had hardened.
How often do we fail to see the dry land that God has placed for our safe journey? How often do we forget the lesson of the drying earth?
Yes, Chris--the inerrancy of the bible can definitely be proved. |
