Mike:

The Black Eyed Susan is almost a weed in the summer. Who knows why we ever chose
to make that the flower of the Preakness?

Maryland racing, for the past few years, has not been good. Bad management, as well
as an inability to compete with neighboring tracks has hurt. A one party political
situation never helps either. The track's solution to any problem is to ask for state
money, because the game is so important to the farming and breeding folks.

The guy who runs the tracks now is an ex-Washington lawyer, who came into
possession of the tracks by virtue of his father's death. Nice work if you can get it,
but over his head.

You have a right to be leery of my state, but not because of the painting of the flowers.
At least that is admitted. Our problem is the more subtle stuff. Don't forget that
we gave the country Spiro Agnew. He was a local legend, until all that loose cash
stuff came out.

Good luck tomorrow,

Bob
