TWY - Re:"Do you think Intel intended TO HAVE to use clock throttling.... Or, was this clock throttling an "Oops" response to a non optimal design?"

Clearly, you just want to act argumentative and spin flame bait. Elmer already offered his opinion -- the "clock throttling mechanism is there to allow system designers to design less that optimal thermal solutions, should they choose to do so." What is the reason that you pretend that you did not understand?

McComas, the source of the clock throttling criticism, is a paid flack for AMD. He gets paid to produce hit pieces on Intel and run platform conferences for AMD.

McComas uses such sloppy experiments that he can not even reproduce the conditions that he says result in clock throttling. In one case, he found a damaged case that restricted air flow. When it was fixed, there was no more clock throttling. The safety mechanism performed its function and protected the processor. This is a strength not a weakness.

The clock throttling prevents damage from any overheating from a number of problems that may arise. It is a good engineering practice to build safeguards into a system so it is not destroyed under unusual operating circumstances.

On the other hand, AMD just allows allows processor destruction. The new solution AMD turns the processor off. So instead of clock throttling you get a system crash.
