Cisco is #1 in switching. The nearest one is Extreme and Foundary. Cisco is really strong in Enterprise as they have an end-to-end product portfolio. The realy advantage that Cisco has is the all the products have a consistent CLI unlike 3Com, Nortel or others.

In core I believe Cisco's product marketting goofed up big time and now Cisco is paying the price. Hopefully they will get their act together. BTW, I have worked on both Cisco GSR and Juniper routers, both have pluses and minuses but in my opnion Cisco has a better architecture and more stable product compared to Juniper. However Juniper had a head start when they came up with OC-192 linecard. Cisco is catching up now.
