>>The same goes for the Power User!! Short range FREE Wireless Data will continue to lower QCOM's market penetration!! IMO..>>

Nothing is free. Please add up the costs of hardware, storage, DSL line, IT staff. And multiply these by millions of locations to get the widespread coverage that you are used to. And why would I share my corporate LAN with you, a stranger walking in the neighborhood.

Coverage is going to be spotty. It may be OK in urban areas but not in the suburban and rural areas.

Yes. Starbucks will provide you access. They will make it up in the coffee. Sears will provide you with wireless LAN in their stores, so that you can buy more of the products in the store.

I think that Wireless LANs are a separate business from cellular. It is like comparing your cordless phone with a cellular phone. You don't carry around your cordless phone everywhere hoping that you will find a corresponding base station at some other location that you can tap into to make phone calls.

I agree Wireless LANs are potentially as big a business as cellular. Because in-building coverage and data speeds of cellular technologies will never be as good as in-building coverage and speeds of wireless LANs. And more people work in-buildings than outside.

But I don't see wireless LANs useful when I am walking in my neigborhood or driving on a highway. On the other hand I could use my cellular modem to work indoors if the coverage is reasonable. And it will work on the highway, or in the parking lot of my client where I can download my Powerpoint presentation just before entering the Client's building to make the presentation.
