Quamnet News Service
i-Cable Communications Ltd. (1097), the pay television and Internet arm of Wharf Holdings (0004), has raised its broadband market share to 35 percent from last year's 25 percent, said Stephen Ng, deputy chairman.

Ng projects 100,000 broadband subscribers by the middle of the year, growing to 150,000 by year-end.

Ng said the cost for broadcasting rights to next year's World Cup would be reflected in 2002 accounts. Revenue growth should offset the cost of the rights, he said.

He said i-Cable posted a significant rise in first-quarter revenue and he expects revenue to achieve a compound growth rate of 20 percent this year.

At 11:57 a.m. Hong Kong time, the stock was up 2.7 percent to HK$4.775 on turnover of HK$6.8 million.
