Nice post. I agree with most of what you say. I almost always sell portions of my position into strength. I set actual stops; if the market takes me out, so be it. Where I differ is relying on the break-even stop too stringently. I get stopped out often; to me it's a cost of doing business and a very stringent method of limiting losses. If the stock does run in my desired direction I'll still put in stops...and still sell into strength. I assume that there will be a time or two when Very Bad News (accounting irregularities, unexpected intra-day "warnings", the CEO getting hit by a bus) will happen, with a subsequent sharp price decline....hence the stops. But I'm nitpicking. Your post was well written and full of wisdom.
