milo:

"AMD's
multiprocessor CPUs use a new bus design that gives each processor its own dedicated bandwidth and lets the processors read from each
other's L2 cache. This point-to-point bus design is a major distinction from Intel's current shared bus architecture, which prevents both
CPUs from accessing the chipset functions or memory at the same time. AMD has not announced the speed range for these chips but
demonstrated a 1.2GHz dual CPU system and noted that extreme stability is more important than high speeds for the target markets. "

I have to think that this is an essential determinant in the Dell conundrum at the moment...Gonna be interesting to see how this Dell thing plays out over the next 2 to 3 weeks...Dell is at a significant juncture in its evolution if in fact palomino products pan out anywhere nearly as well as initial indicators suggest they will (which, I for one, don not doubt)... AMD has turned the microprocessor world on its head in the past 2 years by offering world leading price/competitive products across all MHz ranges, and continuation of this trend going forward looks inevitable with the release of the Athlon 4...Dell has some serious soul searching ahead of it given such a reordering in the microprocessor sector...
