Creating an alias is an easy way around the club cards of supermarkets.

My grocery store has a profile on my spending habits that is associated with Lord only knows who. They have my blessing to freely target the socks off that fellow. (Incidentally, why again do stores feel this information on the purchasing habits of bogus people is valuable?)

In the case of brokerage accounts, credit cards, insurance policies, and bank accounts, however, most of us do not want those accounts associated with an alias.
