Attended a gun show yesterday and a guy had an English double barreled bolt action 12 ga shotgun. Now this was the strangest looking contraption I've ever seen. Also it was highly engraved (English style) and had fine wood. Damascus barrels demanded black powder shells.

I spoke to the man who owned it. He had an English accent. He told me that this was an early design submitted in the early days of breech loading firearms and that the design wasn't accepted because of the awkwardness of working the bolts (Only one was OK unless the shooter was both left and right handed.) as only a few were made. One is on display in the Louvre (France) another in the Smithsonian (USA) but as far as he knew, this was the only one in the hands of a private collector.

He also had a wonderful display of pin-fires and a couple of muzzle loaders as well. Everything on his table was world class museum quality, original, and well over a century old.
