Market Outlook
Who Let the Bulls Out?
By:Adam Martin
Heading into the afternoon, the Nasdaq continues to rally on strong tech and biotech leaders, leveling off well above the 2250 level which analysts feel is an important psychological barrier. The DJIA is up and down, but seems to be slowly recovering from an early falloff attributable top bad earnings news and the Proctor and Gamble Acquisition. Last week, a half point rate cut by the Fed and some surprisingly promising economic data sparked a rally on Wednesday that resulted in one of the highest single point gains on record. By contrast, information is going to be a bit scarce this week, and with the long weekend ahead, it's hard to say if the rally we've been enjoying can sustain itself. The next important information the market receives will be speeches given by some officials for the Fed, and Wall Street will be paying close attention to them for clues as to the state of the economy.

*****************
1:35PM ET The Nasdaq is again extending near the day's best levels on broad-based buy interest and heavier than average volume. While the index has experienced a few periods of hesitation today, it has yet to undergo a meaningful sell-wave. Technology buy interest is being led by both semiconductors and biotech with the SOX and BTK both posting sizeable 5.6% intraday gains. The question at this point is whether the current Nasdaq rally can be sustained in the intermediate term given the magnitude of today's move.
