I thought the damage award on the fraud count was extremely small -- almost like those "Oh yeah, you won and here's your $1" type awards

The damage award was $1. But the estoppel effect could be huge. The court could rule that because RMBS committed fraud they are estopped from being able to enforce their SDRAM patents against Infineon. This is one somewhat likely probability. So it is not the dollar amount that counts here. It is the preclusive affect of this decision, even if the MArkman ruling is overturned on appeal.
