The reason I was asking is because gold is less than half the price of the PGM's and there are a lot of diesel engines out there that need catalytic convertors. More in Europe, but large trucks are usually diesel as well, and they have to have large catalytic convertors with lots of precious metal content. That could be a significant market opportunity. Gold bullion bottomed shortly after these reports started coming out. It might just be coincidence, but anything to rally the troops, right?

My enthusiasm is somewhat tempered by the notion that auto manufacturers could be successful designing catalysts with no precious metal content whatsoever. Perhaps they won't need gold, platinum, or palladium?
