Iband will be in the news in June.....perhaps WIND has enough irons in the fire that we won't really know which ones are the most likely to be successful. Many will not be, but a few will be enough?
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 21, 2001--Banderacom(TM), a leading InfiniBand(TM) semiconductor company, today announced that it is partnering with QLogic Corp. (NASDAQ:QLGC - news), the leading storage area networking (SAN) infrastructure provider. Banderacom will supply InfiniBand semiconductors based on its IBandit(TM) architecture to power QLogic's forthcoming InfiniBand SAN equipment. With this announcement, QLogic becomes the first company in the industry to announce an InfiniBand silicon partner.
``From the very beginning of the InfiniBand revolution, Banderacom designed its IBandit architecture to satisfy the storage and networking industries' high-performance demands for greater speed, reliability and efficiency,'' said Les Crudele, president and CEO, Banderacom. ``Partnering with QLogic, the leader in storage area networking infrastructure equipment, is a significant step toward Banderacom's strategy of being the leading provider of InfiniBand silicon.''
QLogic will leverage its SAN market leadership to develop and deliver next-generation InfiniBand-based SANblade channel adapter solutions using Banderacom's IBandit product family of InfiniBand chips. The first SANblade adapter is an InfiniBand form factor I/O module that offers connectivity to 1 and 2 Gigabit Fibre Channel SANs. Leveraging QLogic's storage networking expertise and Banderacom's InfiniBand silicon, this relationship brings evolutionary steps to a revolutionary InfiniBand server architecture.
Banderacom's InfiniBand products are based on the interconnection standard supported by more than 220 members of the InfiniBand Trade Association. InfiniBand addresses the critical need of the next generation of data center networking and computing infrastructure equipment to be smaller, faster, more reliable, scalable and energy efficient than today's equipment.
``QLogic selected Banderacom because IBandit is the leading single-chip InfiniBand product in the market,'' said Mark Edwards, senior vice president, QLogic Corporation. ``We were also impressed with Banderacom's team, vision and superior level of support, and look forward to working closely with Banderacom to make InfiniBand solutions a reality.''
Banderacom introduced the industry's first InfiniBand system-on-a-chip architecture, the IBandit, and is one of the first three early-to-market developers to introduce InfiniBand silicon. IBandit chips are specifically geared to power target channel adaptors (TCAs), which are the evolutionary replacement of the PCI plug-in cards used in virtually all of today's servers as well as storage and networking equipment. Banderacom's IBandit chip increases data center and Internet infrastructure communication speeds to rates up to 10 Gigabits (Gb) per second, breaking the bandwidth bottleneck in first fifty feet of the Internet where data transfer rates are most critical.
``The race is on to determine the early winners and losers among companies competing to supply InfiniBand semiconductors. The winners will power the next generation of storage, networking, and computing infrastructure equipment,'' said Vernon Turner, vice president at IDC Inc. ``Banderacom's IBandit product and early-to-market presence clearly puts them in a strong position to be one of the winners.''
