(COMTEX) B: Spatializer Audio Laboratories Inc. Appoints Sol Friedman B: Spatializer Audio Laboratories Inc. Appoints Sol Friedman Chief Technology Officer New CTO Aims to Broaden Technology Reach and Accelerate R&D SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 22, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Spatializer Audio Laboratories Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: SPAZ) today announced the appointment of Sol Friedman as the company's new chief technology officer. Friedman comes to Spatializer with over twelve years experience in positional and digital audio. Most recently, Sol Friedman was at PMC-Sierra where he served on the group senior DSP staff for PMC-Sierra's voice over IP Group. (Photo: newscom.com newscom.com ) While at PMC-Sierra, Friedman directed programming and design of algorithms for VoIP and VoATM applications and organized and managed testing of VoIP firmware modules. Prior to PMC-Sierra, he has held various management and engineering positions at leading edge DSP companies in the Silicon Valley, including C-Cube Microsystems, Medianix, Creative Labs and VM Labs. In addition to audio technology development, Friedman has extensive firmware engineering experience on Texas Instruments, C-Cube and Analog Devices platforms, among others. Friedman earned a BS in engineering physics from Cornell University and an M.S. in physics from the University of California at Santa Cruz. Friedman says that positional audio is a passion for him since he first experimented in high school with multi-speaker audio displays and binaural recording. "I've always been impressed with Spatializer's technology," Friedman says. "At Medianix Semiconductor, I worked on developing new audio technologies such as mono-to-stereo conversion algorithms and headphone sound field expansion, as well as porting Spatializer's N-2-2(TM) technology to Medianix's chip. I oversaw the implementation of Spatializer N-2-2 onto the Ziva 3(TM) DVD decoder chip at C-Cube. I again translated N-2-2 into assembly at VM Labs while developing new Karaoke algorithms -- this time for the NUON(TM) processor. At PMC-Sierra, I developed and implemented algorithms for Voice Over IP applications." Spatializer Chairman and CEO Henry R. Mandell says that he welcomes Friedman's technical and managerial contributions. "We're pleased to be able to attract someone of Sol's talent and caliber to take charge of our research and development program. Sol, no doubt, is one of the top audio engineers in Silicon Valley and has a great appreciation for our technology from his years working on the licensee side. His passion and his technical acumen will further refine our technology roadmap as we drive forward to exploit emerging technological and market opportunities." "This is a very exciting time to join Spatializer," says Friedman. "The number of companies evaluating our technology for their platforms is staggering. My mission is to broaden our technological reach and to accelerate our research and development efforts. I'm excited to have a hand in moving this company into some hot new areas, including audio enhancement for automobiles and for cell phones. We're determined to become the leading digital audio purveyor to the MP3 and home theater markets as well ... as we already are within the DVD sector."
