Politics and profits are making a mess of our energy policy:

Greg U. nails it: Political cowardice. That LATimes article is the single most important point in this energy "crisis". A small incremental improvement in vehicle efficiency pays off huge compared to finding more energy. Just install OCP on the SUV's and get a huge payback. No more drilling. No goofy performance-robbing engine shutoffs, no diesel smog issues, and definitely no fears about engine disasters from the 1980's. I was amused "W" admitted he struggled thru Yale with C's the other day. Had his last name not been Bush they would have flunked him out and sent him home.

We're going backwards at an alarming rate:

ANOTHER bad idea from GM:

Exactly how much market share do they need to lose?

I'm not a big proponent of diesels, but Europe sure is:

It will be hard to sell diesels in the USA. Suggesting they "scream down the highway" is ridiculous. They don't tell you that VW diesel they're raving about is all of 90hp. I think we've clearly established American consumers are horsepower freaks. Maybe VW fooled the guy and stuck this engine in the car he drove:

And to suggest we'll overlook earlier diesel fiasco's is silly too. American consumers are quick to stereotype. Put the two problems together and this market is a loser for diesels.

And of course GM would like to corner the market on bad ideas:

"More power and performance"? Maybe GM drove that V-10 diesel too!

OPEC isn't the problem. We are:
