>> When will GPRS function? <<
GPRS functions. It's just that BT's too stupid to make sure handsets have the latest firmware and work before
conducting a demonstration for the press. BT launched their consumer GPRS service monday.

Consumer GPRS service launches today; BT Cellnet launches the UK's first consumer GPRS service
e-topics.com.

But most GPRS networks lie idle while they wait for handsets.

Lack of handsets delays GPRS launch

Still only the Motorola handset available.

>> How will functioning be defined if GPRS functions? <<

A lot slower than originally promised. The only functioning handset provides two-plus-one, meaning one time slot up and
two slots down yielding only 13 kbps to 20 kbps data speed. But always on, which is a big improvement over the Manx
Telecom 64Kbps circuit switched non-mobile service.
