Scrapps, re "U.S. Robotics, whose modems are on more desktops around the world than any other company's, will lose its name as a company, but the combined organization will continue to market its products under the U.S. Robotics brand."

This was in an article By Susan Nadeau

This is the first I've heard of this, and it is contrary to what Eric Benhamou said, if I remember right. Eric said something to the effect that "The U.S. Robotics name will disappear".

If a person changed "U.S. Robotics brand" to "U.S. Robotics brands", the meaning would be entirely different. It would imply the retention of Sportster, Courier, Total Control, Megahertz, etc., which could easily be marketed under the 3Com name and still be recognised as the "real thing".

I don't think that we can assume that Susan Nadeau (who stated no source for the information regarding the U.S. Robotics name) is correct. Journalists often make little mistakes.

Perhaps 3Com hasn't completely decided themselves for sure how they will be branded. We'll know eventually!
