Dashing Mike,

RE:Off-topic advice needed, please.
Nationwide Insurance has informed me that they no longer want to insure the tangible assets for which I have riders unless I get a home security system. That's because the value of those assets relative to the value of the home is getting too high. My agent (who I would be loathe to switch from because of 30 years of tremendously good service) can broker an independent policy but my premium would increase ten-fold. The only company she has a relationship with works only with accounts much larger than mine.

Does anyone know of an insurance company that is willing to handle relatively small values of personal property separately from the stuff covered without a rider on a homeowner policy? (No, Frank. It's not my wine collection that is causing the problem. :)

Alternatively, are there any suggestions as to good home-security technologies and companies?

I believe cover can be obtained from Berkshire, they do Super-Cat cover.

OR..........buy a dog!

Seriously dogs are a good deterrent and are great exercise.
