Engineer: "Like I said many times before, there lacks the ability to have overall control so that roaming and subscription makes economic sense for someone to fund milions of dollars of infrastructure roll out so that a couple of techno-geeks can sign on and use email in public places."

Who needs to fund "millions of dollars!"?? Were are not trying to build a "nationwide network".. Were putting in WLAN web access in an Airport Lounge for G0$'s sake

Here is all you need.. This is a stand alone network!! So that patrons can whip out their PDA and check e-mail at a the airport during a change of flights, or in a Grocery store,etc..!

Let's say a Airport Lounge that will support 30 users!

Just buy 3 of these..http://www.apple.com/airport/
@ $299 each. It provides DHCP and stand alone PPPOE!!

A DSL router.. DHCP and PPPOE 4 port. $149.00

A DSL modem..$99 (if not included in you DSL subscription).

A roll of Cat. 5 and some connectors.. $100.00

That will cost your store $1,300 bucks, and $45 a month DSL service. And $1000 bucks to install it! My 12 year old nephew could do it for them..

You go on and on preaching about the millions and millions of dollars of invesment that it takes, and the security issues, etc.. All we want to do is log on and get net access in my Admirals Club..There is no threat to the Security of Delta Airlines IT infrastructure.. It' s even got an Independent DSL Connection for G0$'s sake!

If you want to sit here an preach and say that the folks over at Merril Lynch are off their rockers. Then so be it!!.. But, that does not stop the fact that Delta is putting 802.11 into it's Airport Clubs.. And if you want to believe that the continued build out of these systems will have no impact on the use of "Fee Based" Wireless Providers airtime..Then again, you are so welcome to your believe in this concept!

In the mean time.. The roll out continues... in spite of your pleas for reason!
