You could take them in a Honda Hybrid and save gas.

I tried your carpooling. Instead of me driving 3 miles to the coffee shop I called my buddy to see if he wanted to go. He did. I drove 5 miles south to pick him up, then 8 miles north to the shop. Went 8 miles south to take him home then 5 miles north to get home. 26 miles. Now if I just went and left him at home it would have been 6 miles. Were the extra 20 miles cancelled because there were two of us?
