Don't feel too bad about short term sluggishness in FSII or UTEK. Remember that the cost of a plant to make electronic memory chips has increased from $4 million in 1971 to $1.2 billion in 1996 - and is expected to reach $4 billion by the year 2001.

Of that cost, 85% is for equipment, much of which will be obsolete in less than 4 years. This bodes well for equipment suppliers such as FSI International and Ultratech Stepper, among others.

The challenges of semiconductor production were recently set out in a Harvard Business Review article - the article is at members.aol.com if you have an interest -

Best - Joe
