Mainstream memory is not about profitability for the memory makers.

That has to be absolutely one of the stupidest things I've ever heard on this thread. Every single business that exists, exists to make a profit. Otherwise you're out of business. The only problem with the "commodity" products (memory, hard drives, etc.) is that they go through cycles where the individual companies build out too much capacity and end up having to sell their product for whatever they can get for it. This happens because there has never existed a company yet that actually thinks it's going to lose market share. When these periods occur, everyone then cuts back their production and cap ex plans, supply comes back into line with demand, and the prices come back up. And profits are once again made.

If you're not going to make a product profitably, what kind of idiot would you have to be to even want to be in that business?

Once again, stick to technology. You have no business discussing business.
