Infolatina via NewsEdge Corporation : MEXICO CITY, May 22, 2001 (Reforma/Infolatina via COMTEX) -- The fact that Telefonica Moviles now is in talks to acquire a stake in Mexican mobile carrier Pegaso does not imply that the Spanish-owned company has halted acquisition talks with Unefon, another Mexican mobile operator, according to analysts at Santander Investment. Santander analysts said recently initiated Telefonica-Pegaso talks constituted a broadening of the options under consideration at Telefonica Moviles, which earlier this year acquired four mobile carriers in based in northern Mexico - Cedetel, Norcel, Bajacelular and Movitel - from U.S.-based Motorola for 1.8 billion dollars, Mexico City daily Reforma reported. "Either Pegaso or Unefon could provide Telefonica Moviles with the nationwide presence it needs and the technological infrastructure to compete with (America Moviles subsidiary) Telcel, which leads the Mexican market with a market share of 73 percent," said a report released by Santander Investment.
