Paul, as a real Intel old timer, you wouldn't want to fess up to what Merced's original release date was supposed to be, would you? The Intel thread seems to think that since there were no public pronouncements before '97, it was never intended to ship before '99. I remember a talk from a P6 guy when the PPro first came out, he talked about Intel betting the company on the next generation every 3 years. The bet made in '94 seems to show that that particular statement was somewhat exaggerated. Of course, the P6 guys in general have plenty to be proud of, they're still carrying the company.
