The main reason I can suppose to replace it would be to have a HoS that 'democratically' represents the people. Agreed, as a ceremonial role one can argue that it doesn't really matter, and it's better to have those 'bred' for non-partisan outlook, above politics. But equally it's not exactly fair that only a very select bloodline gets to enjoy incredible and perpetual luxury, on the grounds that a distant ancestor was more ruthless than his (invariably his) competitors and one line of his descendants must then be perpetually favoured...

For example, the claim of the current monarchs on the British throne is really rather weak - mainly due to anti-Catholicism in the UK in the 16-18C (probably understandable at the time, if not quite justifiable now) excluding various closer candidates.

I'm not really bothered, since it seems to work why change it. But the correlation does make me wonder if it's at least an indicator of a good society, if not possibly a cause, or sharing a related root cause?
