slacker: Qualcomm has already made its money since the customer has both modems.
Yes, multiple devices PDA, Laptop, etc. but, only one Q modem card.. The One Q chip per device model is dissolved.. That was my point about the dilution of royalties, and chip sales via the Q modem Card.
Then comes in 802.11..where a customer in a given area, may have a choice between "pay per minute", and "pay noting per minute" net access.. You can claim that this does not directly affect Q. But, it does.. Less revenue pouring into the coffers of the Wireless Operators.. (Being taken away by WLAN services..) The less money the Operator has to expand data services on his network..
In other words,, if they can't make the business model work @ DFW.. How can he hope to make it work in Moline? IMO.
It's all about the commidity price of Data, and Mobile Data.. You have to be able to support that Mobile Data has a "much higher commodity value" than does fixed wireless.. And the 802.11 boys want to bastardize the commodity price of "Wireless Mobile Data".
Maybe you can get a "premium" fro m "Secure Wireless Mobile Data"...But, if you are trying to build a nationwide network based on the size of that market.. Good Luck!
I'm headed for the airport.. (actual Airport, not 802.11 Airport) .
