In India the practical speed on a Cybercafe internet connection is less than 10kbps. You can have several sips of Coffee before the screen refreshes with a new web-page. And this access costs $1 an hour.

I think a PDA/Phone such as the Palm Phone, with a price tag under $300 will find widespread use. The most common use is email anyway, which can be done with a PDA. Even with IS 95A speed (14.4 kbps) the connection is better than the access at a Cybercafe. And you don't have to worry about power cuts (very common), if the battery has been charged.
