OFF TOPIC--NASTY VERSUS BENIGN RELIGIONS I agree with you that most religions are somewhat nasty in that they strongly believe their take on things, deride any other view, and try to convert everybody to their camp. HOWEVER, religious and spiritual groups do exist that do not behave like this. I am a devotee of an American-born Spiritual Teacher, Adi Da, who (from my point of view) is the greatest Spiritual teacher, ever. However, part of Adi Da's Teaching is his admonition that you should not believe ANYTHING he says, but check it out for yourself and prove the truth of it to yourself. That sounds a little different than the ultra right-wing Christians, doesn't it? A devotee of Adi Da has, as a discipline, is asked to function as: "the intelligent and compassionate friend of everyone" What would happen if everyone actually DID that? We are not "the only game in town" in the realm of more benign spiritual groups--there are MANY others. I can understand your embracing the agnostic "path". But don't just do so based on the worst examples......! Namaste! Jim
