LG--Jeffords power actually has come from the large Independent base in Vermont.But himself comes from a rock solid Republican family,but you simply don't go to arm-twisting a Vermonter.
If he was a democrat and Clinton started to turn on thumb-screws,he would as easily have bolted from being a Democrat.
My favorite state motto is "live free or die".That being the motto of New Hampshire.
And that is one reason i feel that there are so many independent voters in upper new England,we don't want to be ruled by set in stone idealogies,and goose-step to one tune.We like unpredictable.max
