| Orchestra is good. I suspect singing is more fun, though. If she wants vocal lessons, there is no harm, but beware. Some voices are not suited for opera, and a lot of times suffer from being forced into unnatural singing. Unscrupulous voice coaches will accept any decent singer and subject them to operatic coaching. Sometimes, you can find those who will work with the type of voice, but since opera is the most systematized instruction, it tends to rule. Getting her in a school chorus/choir, if she has room in her schedule, would be the best thing, and get advice from the chorus teacher. (Beware, though, a lot of Christian works may find their way onto the program, and if that would bother you, you might look around beyond school). |
