Heh. Perhaps, absent war, the one precludes the other - especially in a media age. What might Clinton have done, if not for the sniping? [Oh, wow, so he was sexually unfaithful. Well strike out most other leaders of history, for starters].

Anyhow... statesmen of integrity and credibility? Obviously, Mandela? or, how about John Hume - leader of the NI SDLP, won the Nobel peace prize. Israel and NI are similar - except that NI has rather more recent and historical justification to exist... like it predates most European nations and indeed the US, never mind Israel.

The current Pope would doubtless make things worse. I don't think he's the most flexible or compromising sort, these aren't notable virtues of the Catholic leaders right now... if ever...

LOL. How about Castro? Or, er, might he be seen as biassed?
