If too many illegal drugs make it to the US, the legal drug makers lose money.

I'm not sure I see the logic here. The primary function of illegal drugs is recreational, the primary use of legal drugs is therapeutic. The two markets are not competitive. Nobody's going to snort coke to cure and infection, and nobody's going to pop antibiotics to get high.

I suppose marijuana might cut into some Viagra and Prozac sales, but it would hardly be a threat to the industry.
