I also agree with cfoe in that you can get caught up just wanting to make a play. I call it the juice.

Thanks for the thoughts, Tony. As for that temptation, I know it all too well. As I said earlier, I first moved some of my IRA funds into a stock investing account at Schwab in January 2000 and then slivered them into the market in small purchases. But that climate was a buy climate, as I'm certain you remember.

One of my biggest surprises with individual investing is just how emotional it all is and how easy it is to not only let it get out of hand but for it to shape, if not determine, both perception and judgment.
