Yeah. We either have to choose between the parties' dueling nutters or we have to be Independents. I can really empathize with Jeffords.

Mr. Weicker said that he visited with former Senator Barry Goldwater shortly before his death and that "he was bemoaning the fact that even someone like him would be considered too liberal for the Republican Party."


I remember when Goldwater was reminiscing about that. I also remember when Goldwater was trounced in his Presidential bid. That was my first election. Too bad the Goldwater touchstone has been lost.
