Eric: They *are* all over geothermal technology and wind turbines. There is only so much geothermal "fuel" available though, and there are roadblocks such as the inability of them to guarantee a set amount of energy output, thus negating many potential forward energy supply contracts. Solar is being used by wholesalers more and more, but it isn't quite cheap enough yet to implement on a very large scale. I did not say that all alternative energy sources *are* cheaper; I said that geothermal most certainly is today, and others such as solar will be within 10 years. It has been increasing substantially. Wind turbines have increased their efficiency some 100x+ over the last decade or so, and are now about the same expense as traditional means... in fact many are much cheaper than traditional sources; it just depends how much wind is at the wind farm, and which wind turbines they use. Energy output increases exponentially w/ wind speed. The largest energy wholesalers are getting into all these areas, but what bothers me is that Bush has cut funding for such research, and is pushing oil much more than alternatives, completely ignoring the environmental costs.
