What's the difference between a fanatic and someone who holds strongly to a core set of beliefs which are genuinely felt?

When I think of fanaticism as distinguished from strongly held beliefs, I think of irrationality, deception, and disregard for others. They say you're jogging too fast when you can't jog and carry on a conversation at the same time. If you can't pursue your beliefs without losing your ability to recognize and listen to others, you're a fanatic. If you lost the ability to critically assess what you're fed, you're a fanatic. If you demonize those who don't agree with you. If you don't think others ever have a valid point. If you disregard whatever doesn't conform to your beliefs. Or mislead as you advocate. And justify it because you know you're right. You're a fanatic. IMO
