Agree with entire post ceterus paribus... however, if we revist a 30's style situation in the U.S. the dollar will crash against other currencies and hence against GOLD as well. The reality of the situation is that the Fed will do everything in it's power to stave off deep recession and depression [which IMO it cannot do] and the result will probably look more like Germany in the 20's with the 'credit monster' being the equivelent of feeding the reparations payments.
