The BOE auctions are only 25 tons every few months, which (if I remember correctly) is also small compared to even the amount of gold traded daily in London. However, up until recently they have had an impact on the gold market, and the initial announcement killed a strong rally almost exactly 2 years ago. The announcement and the size of the Russian sale is not so much the issue as the market's reaction to it. I am looking for the reason why it will be different this time.
