You can think of it as: There's this 'throttle circuit' built into the P4 that activates under certain conditions. The goal is then to determine those conditions.

Your point would seem more genuine if you pointed out that there is no 'throttle circuit' built in to Athlon that prevents crashes under similar conditions. The goal then is to determine those conditions. For you to continually hound Intel for providing a safety mechanism, while ignoring AMD's apparent equal susceptibility and lack of safety mechanism, seems to completely miss the point of good design. Crashes are bad and you give AMD a free pass. Recovery mechanisms are good and you demand explanations from Intel. Your reasoning seems backwards.
