Strange E-Mail Preferences Change

Thread,

I had a new poltergeist enter my computer today. Because I'd had the blue screen of death and then a complete gray-out of my monitors during the morning, I decided to run Norton Anti-Virus and then Scandisk. Once these two tasks were completed, with no viruses detected and no fragments or bad files discovered, I rebooted the computer and tried to collect email. I was completely baffled when my settings in "Preferences" under Netscape Communicator 4.7 (running under Win98 SE) were changed so that I no longer was seeking my local ISP's POP3 server, but rather was having Netscape attempt to log on to <pop-server@nortonantivirus.com>

I changed nothing in my settings and this behavior by my computer complete baffles me. I'm wondering if any here have seen any similar quirkiness? Furthermore, when I re-entered the correct POP3 server information, the Netscape Communicator said it could not locate the server. After yet another re-boot, everything seems to be back to normal.

Do I have a ghost living in my 'puter? Just wondering.....

TIA, Ray
