SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 16 (Reuters) - CacheFlow Inc. (NasdaqNM:CFLO - news), whose systems boost Web site performance, announced on Wednesday a steeper fiscal fourth quarter loss than a year ago.

Cacheflow reported a pro forma net loss for the quarter of $13.96 million, or 35 cents a share, on sales of $21.5 million, compared with a pro forma loss of $6.2 million, or 20 cents a share, on sales of $12.8 million in the year-earlier quarter.

Wall Street analysts on average expected a loss of 39 cents a share, according to Thomson Financial/First Call.

Cacheflow said it recorded a number of non-cash and non-recurring items for the fourth quarter. Including these items, the company reported an actual net loss of $348.9 million, or $8.81 per share.

For its first quarter, Cacheflow said it expects to have flat revenues compared with the fiscal fourth quarter and a pro forma net loss of $13-15 million. For fiscal 2002, the company said it currently anticipates 10 percent to 15 percent sequential quarterly revenue growth in subsequent quarters.
