I didn't actually know he lived in Canada - his behaviour is as I mocked. He must be very uncomfortable so far north of his mental home (pun intended). Still, that's his problem; I'll take note of him again if he shows signs of functional neurons, but I don't expect to have to waste too many keystrokes...
From what I know of Canadian culture, I agree - it's much more pleasant, very civilised. I'd hope my mockery was completely unreal of the US, though... it was meant to be.
As for violence here, the last riot I can recall hearing about at football was in the 80's, the IRA have had a ceasefire since '96, and life under QV was - for all but the richer minority who then dominated the news - for more violent and unpleasant <g> Lower-level violence is increasing at the moment IMO, but that's partly demography (more young men) and partly a cultural reaction to the wanton destruction caused to societal bounds, norms and bodies under the glorious Thatcher; plus the usual suspects of familial breakdown and poverty (especially single-parent); and, perhaps most of all, a culture of individual freedom which weakens the ability of 'moral' censure - "You have no right to criticise me or tell me what to do - your laws and concerns are not my affair". Possibly, too, it is reported more now? Can't say. |
