That is, when markets would go to extremes and there were no public bids or offers, in order to make the market continuous I did my job and provided an exit for the panicked public by filling in those continuity holes.

Maybe it would have been better for all if there were no easy exit. What would logically happen if you hadn't been there to facilitate and exacerbate the selling? Logic tells me that the prices would have stabilized much sooner and an "extreme" situation could have been avoided. REAL supply and demand, not artificial. Get it?

In my opinion, Market Makers are obsolete, period.
